Terrifically Talented Thursday! Customizations & A Special GIVEAWAY

Greetings friends,

Thank you for joining me for another Terrifically Talented Thursday!  We have two more amazingly gifted artisans to discover today.  As you may know, I am very fond of mixed media painting and have just started taking classes with Suzi Blu to learn the techniques for myself.  But Silke Powers is an entirely self-taught new artist who truly excels at the medium.  And she's only been painting for about a year!

The stunning original piece which appears at the beginning of this post, Best Friends and Sisters, was painted by Silke with acrylics on watercolor paper.   The two women were actually painted on a layer of collage and tissue papers, which gives the piece a great deal of texture and depth.  The next piece, entitled Spread Your Wings, is an original mixed media tag.  Silke has just recently begun painting tags and thought that they should be painted on both sides.   As you can see, Silke's ability to create texture and depth are both quite evident in this charming and inspirational piece!

Silke uses acrylics and soft pastels for her work.  For this piece, Silke used molding paste before painting the image of the woman with acrylics.  Most of Silke's work focuses on portraitures of women.  There is such a soft feel and gentleness to her work that is truly feminine while still reflecting inner strength.   Silke's blog, Metamorphosis, is a beautiful daily meditation on her life in Georgia with her artist husband and two pets as well as her evolving artistic journey.  I highly encourage you to visit there, if you haven't already done so.  Silke's original art work and prints can be purchased directly from her etsy shop.  And there is wonderful news!  Silke welcomes the opportunity to create custom portraits of your loved ones!  I commissioned Silke to create a small portrait of me for my husband as a Valentine's Gift, and it was beautiful!  The likeness was amazing, and she had only a small photograph to work from.  If you are interested in custom portraits, please contact Silke directly for more information.  In addition to her blog and etsy shop, Silke can also be found on twitter!

Our next Terrifically Talented artisan, Jamie of Bungelow Jame, is inspired by everything vintage!  She credits her grandmother, who absolutely adored costume jewelry, as the muse for her one-of-a-kind creations, like this gorgeous jewel-encrusted Victorian-style brooch pictured above.

Jamie loves to recycle old pieces of jewelry and recreate them into beautiful vintage-look pieces. Each piece Jamie creates is one of a kind, like this lovely romantic rose necklace, so she tries to salvage and recycle everything she can! She also enjoys doing custom work, so you can always contact her to create a unique piece of jewelry just for you!  Jamie, who resides in Northern California, loves cooking, baking, painting and gardening.  She has a new blog, so please pay her a visit!  In addition to her blog and etsy, Jamie can also be found on twitter.

And now for a very special treat...Jamie has graciously offered to give away this exquisite pair of earrings to one lucky reader!  Anyone who comments on this post only will be entered to win these Bungelow Jame originals!  You will have through Wednesday, May 12 to enter.  Please be sure to include your email so we can easily contact you, and only leave one comment.  The lucky winner will be selected via random number generator and announced publicly on next Thursday's Terrifically Talented post.

I'll be back this weekend with a long-awaited personal post.  I hope you've enjoyed this installment of Terrifically Talented Thursday.  If you'd like to be featured, please send me a personal email.  Much good luck to all who enter today's giveaway!

Til next time,
Theresa
